Tomás Santos and Faith Latham both want to rent the same building in town, and neither is willing to give up the fight. My Thoughts

This was my first Susanne Dietze read and just as sweet as the cover. Tomás Santos and his twins are adorable and have some scene-stealing moments. I also liked the heart and kindness in the heroine Faith Latham.

Both Tom and Faith want to enhance their community but can’t see how they can do so without crushing the others dreams. And there may even be a secondary character or two who don’t want to see them together.

This book was an adorable read and a great way to pass the afternoon.

Book Review: The Doctor’s Nanny

Happy Monday, friends! Today I am thrilled to share my thoughts about The Doctor’s Nanny, the first book in Rose Fresquez’s new Caregivers series.

Have you read any books by Rose Fresquez yet?

ABOUT THE BOOK

He’s about to propose to the woman of his dreams when he meets the love of his life.

As a successful neurosurgeon about to propose to his gorgeous girlfriend, Ryan Harper has the perfect life. When his sister and brother-in-law die in a tragic car accident, he suddenly becomes a single dad to his orphaned niece and nephews. A sixty-hour workweek with a houseful of children is a lot to juggle, and he desperately needs help.

When Destiny Brown finds herself out of work, she takes a job as a temporary live-in nanny. Despite her lack of experience, she’s certain she can handle four kids. Fighting her attraction to her handsome boss, however, is going to require some extra training.

While all his spare time should be on connecting with his girlfriend, Destiny’s love and devotion to his family is working its way into his heart. Every conversation, every interaction, every heated glance across the table, might be a step closer to his destiny—until his best friend starts pursuing Destiny.

Ryan can do one of two things: confess his feelings to his employee, or suffer in silence and let fate take its course.

This is the first standalone book in the caregiver series. Each book can be read in any order.

Books in the series

1. The Doctor’s Nanny

2. The Entrepreneur’s Nurse

3. The CEO’s Companion

4. The Physician’s Helper

5. The Soldier’s Therapist

6. The Investor’s Attendant

MY THOUGHTS

With a realistic storyline and charming characters, author Rose Fresquez creates a wonderful contemporary romance novel that is sure to delight readers. The Doctor’s Nanny, the first book in her new Caregivers series, will appeal to a wide range of readers and includes diverse characters that they can easily relate to. I just love Rose Fresquez’s books, and I think The Doctor’s Nanny is my new favorite book of hers.

After the unexpected death of his sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Ryan Harper is suddenly the legal guardian of their four children. Ryan quickly realizes he needs assistance with children, and the new nanny, Destiny Brown, is a breath of fresh air to the entire family. Readers will love getting to know Destiny and Ryan in this heartwarming tale of finding true love.

The Doctor’s Nanny is recommended for readers of inspirational contemporary romance. I am definitely looking forward to reading more books from this series.

Book Review: Bright Side

Happy Wednesday, friends! Today I am thrilled to share my thoughts about Bright Side by Rose Fresquez. Bright Side is the third book in Rose Fresquez’s Buchanan series, her delightful interracial Christian firefighter romance series.

ABOUT THE BOOK

A firefighter burned out on romance, a single mom who sparks his interest and ignites their second chance at Love.

After his former relationship goes up in flames, Andrew Buchanan accepts a position as captain of a firehouse near his hometown. Determined to invest time with family and the new community, Andrew lets his brother reel him into coaching a kids’ soccer team. The last thing on his mind is romance…until an opportunity presents itself in the form of Bianca Perez.

She’s a single mom run ragged, but ready to step back into dating after being a widow for five years. Falling for a hot firefighter is crazy enough.

Making a fool of herself in front of Andrew Buchanan is not part of her plan—if she had a more definite plan, she would know better than to fantasize about a man who would never give her the time of day. When her fantasy unfolds to reality, they both realize how much they need a chance to love again. Will Bianca be willing to risk losing another man in the line of duty?

Bright Side is the third book in the standalone series; The Buchanans.

MY THOUGHTS

“You look at me like I’m going to light a match and set you on fire.”

With a sweet romance, a fun family-centered storyline, and bits of humor sprinkled throughout, author Rose Fresquez creates a captivating contemporary romance novel that her readers will be sure to enjoy.  Even though Bright Side is the third book in Rose Fresquez’s Buchanans series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone novel. This wonderful interracial firefighter romance series follows the three Buchanan siblings (Ezra, Renee, and Andrew) as they discover love when they least expect it.

After a failed engagement, fire captain Andrew Buchanan is hesitant to enter a relationship again.  Bianca, a widow with a young daughter, is afraid of losing another person she loves.  Add in the crazy antics of coaching a youth soccer team and you have the recipe for a humorous and fun novel.

Personally, I love series that focus on close family and friend relationships, so I was thrilled that all the Buchanan siblings and their significant others played a role in this book.  Readers will fall in love with this family and will want to go back and read the first two books in the series if they have not already.

Bright Side is recommended for readers of inspirational contemporary romance.  If you haven’t read any books by this author yet, this is the perfect opportunity!  I am looking forward to reading more books from Rose Fresquez in the future.

I RECEIVED A COMPLIMENTARY COPY OF THIS BOOK FROM THE AUTHOR/PUBLISHER AND WAS NOT REQUIRED TO WRITE A POSITIVE REVIEW. ALL OPINIONS EXPRESSED ARE MINE.

“She was not about to admit to him that he ignited a fire within her, something she hadn’t experienced since her first love, or even ever before.”

Goodreads| Amazon | B&N | Book Depository |IndieBound

MY THOUGHTS

First of all – don’t you just love the cover? That little cowboy is stinkin’ adorable! And both he and the dog steal every scene they’re in at some point. So cute!

Her Cowboy Sweetheart continues the Sweetheart Ranch series with another enjoyable installment. I’ve loved each book so far and this one was a perfect fit with the rest. The sweet friendship between JD and Carly makes a believable foundation for their romance. JD’s Latino roots make him one swoony cowboy, while Carly’s genuine heart makes her instantly likable for readers. Add in her super cute son and JD’s energetic puppy, and you have a feel-good story that will leave you smiling. Of course, we have to deal with some pesky people who aren’t as likable, but this just gives JD and Carly more ways to be protective of each other. Win-win. 🙂

JD’s struggles with Ménière’s disease and Carly’s custody battle with her former in-laws (and parents of her abusive ex-husband) add emotional layers to the plot that give the story further depth and dimension. The author does a great job of increasing awareness for both of these issues through Her Cowboy Sweetheart while also not bogging down or overpowering the story.

Bottom Line: Cathy McDavid delivers another sweet & swoony romance set at the Sweetheart Ranch. Engaging characters and compelling subplots immediately draw readers’ interest and keep it for the duration of the novel. Hombre the dog and toddler Rickie add notes of comedy and warmth to break up the more serious undertones that threaten JD and Carly’s budding romance, and you’ll quickly fall in love with both of them. Another great visit to the Sweetheart Ranch – ready for the next!

Reviewer’s Note:
Readers may want to be aware that there are several casual uses of ‘God’ throughout this novel.
This book is otherwise clean.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

My Thoughts

An Alaskan Twin Surprise is full of sweetness and a faith that warm your heart. Rachel Marshall has a secret that is heartbreaking as it is an opportunity for God’s healing and perfect work to be evident in her life. I enjoyed watching her go through the journey and especially with the cuteness of her twin daughters.

The book also had some good twists and turns that kept me wondering how they would be resolved. All in all, An Alaskan Twin Surprise was another good read from Ms. Calhoune.

Book Review: The Solid Grounds Coffee Company

We made it to Friday! WOOHOO! This has been a week, but you know what I do when weeks are frustrating? I grab some coffee and read a good book. This week I read The Solid Grounds Coffee Company which is the last book in The Saturday Night Supper Club series by Carla Laureano. This series has been fantastic to read!

About the Book

The Solid Grounds Coffee Company (The Saturday Night Supper Club) by [Laureano, Carla]

Analyn Sanchez can handle the long hours and arrogant clients that come with her job as a crisis management associate at Denver’s largest publicity firm. The high-powered job, expensive condo, and designer wardrobe are all part of her plan to prove to her family that her life choices haven’t been in vain. But when she’s asked to cover up a client’s misdeeds with serious moral and legal ramifications, she can no longer sacrifice her conscience for her career . . . and the cost is no less than her job.

Ever since a devastating climbing accident in South America eight months ago, and a bad decision that dried up his sponsorships, professional rock climber Bryan Shaw has found himself at similar loose ends. When the opportunity to buy a coffee farm in Colombia arises, he jumps on it—only to discover his wandering ways have left him utterly unprepared to run a business.

When Bryan returns home and offers Ana a role in his company as a solution to both their problems, she’s desperate enough to consider working with the far-too-flippant and far-too-handsome climber, even though he’s the polar opposite of her type A nature. As they delve deeper into the business, however, she begins to suspect there’s much more to Bryan than she’s given him credit for . . . and that sometimes the best plans are the ones you never see coming.

Goodreads | Amazon

My Thoughts

Laureano has proven once again that she is a fantastic story teller. Readers have been waiting patiently for this story, and it did not disappoint. What I didn’t expect was to have the prodigal son story to hit me so hard, so fast. Bryan is a character we can all relate to at some point in our lives. He lived life for himself, until he came to a point where all he could do was look up and realize who he needed to live for. From that point on Bryan is different. Yes, he still had some faults and bumps. But Laureano weaves an encouraging tale of how the broken can be made whole over time. They will continue to have imperfections, yet still grow as individuals.

Bryan and Ana’s love story is probably my favorite of this series. The attraction is always there for sure, but Laureano took her time with them. Their relationship wasn’t forced. There were obstacles to overcome, as there is with any new relationship. Readers have been waiting for this story for the entire series after all! What I loved most is that Bryan and Ana were real with each other. They had some real conversations, sweet moments, laughable moments, and all around great chemistry.

While I am sad to see this series go, I can honestly say Laureano ended it with a bang. And the good thing is, we can visit these friends at any time! I highly recommend reading this series, from start to finish. I think you’ll find the friendships and relationships will bring a smile to your face, and some encouragement to your hearts.

Book Spotlight: Summer to Remember

Happy Wednesday! Friday is in sight!!

Today I’m spotlighting a book by a new-to-me author – Tara Grace Ericson. Summer to Remember is book 4 in the Main Street Minden series but looks like it can be read as a standalone, without having to read the previous books.

ABOUT THE BOOK

summer to rememberFitting together might be more important than fitting in.

Danielle Washington never felt like she belonged. After she loses her bakery job, she is left with no family, no job, no car, and no money to pay rent. When she gets a call that an aunt she doesn’t remember breaks a hip, Danielle jumps at the chance to come help. Maybe the small town holds chance to start over. Or at least discover the secrets that kept her mother from ever returning home.

Mark Dawson doesn’t fit a mold, either. His family has lived in small-town Minden his entire life, but his trendy style and that’s-definitely-not-a-sport interests didn’t always fit in. As a middle-school teacher, Mark tries to teach students it’s okay to embrace your quirks; a lesson he also finds himself reiterating to the cute new baker in town. But when he is accused of the unthinkable and his career and community threaten to crumble; the shame is too much to share.

Danielle finds herself caught up in the charm of small-town life and the handsome school teacher who shares her love of video games and superheroes. But can she overcome the skeletons of the past to connect with the only family she has left? Will Mark’s own secrets push them apart before they ever have a chance? The healing power of the truth and God’s provision are front and center in this story of forgiveness, acceptance, community, and love.

GOODREADS | AMAZON

MY THOUGHTS

I’ve never read anything by Rose Fresquez but that will change right now. I love the interracial and multi-cultural perspective to her stories & her characters. It’s not done just to check a box but because the author herself is passionate about these characters & the blending of their cultures.

New Light is a short story but at the same time the characters are layered and fairly well-developed for such a brief read. It presents an honest picture of addiction, how it affects everything and everyone around us, and the power of people in your corner to help you get clean and stay clean. Since it is such a short story (31 pages), the author obviously can’t touch on everything a recovering addict goes through. Still, she gives us enough of an idea to set the stage appropriately for Tobin’s journey and remind us that it’s not a quick fix or an easy one.

I loved Eimy and would easily spend an entire novel with her! Her personality and kindness are contagious, and especially at this time of year we crave that kindness in our fellow humans. She’s a breath of fresh air from the moment she enters the scene, and she remains credible throughout.

New Light has definitely whet my appetite for more from this author – so look for more reviews of her books coming from me here in the new year!
