Smart country girl Paula Raye Lawrence can learn some important lessons about love if she’s hip enough to see them.

What would possess a man with such fine threads and a BAD sports car to come little ole Cherry, North Carolina? She figures Ed for another skirt-chasing nobody like her late father. Man, was she ever wrong.
Turns out Dr. Anderson has as many skeletons in his closet as she does. She can’t avoid him though, as much as she tries. He holds the way of her escape to a better life in the big city… and the keys to her heart.

First Line Friday: A Shattered Life Restored

It’s Friday! Welcome to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books. Grab the book nearest to you and share the first line. Today I’m sharing the first line from A Shattered Life Restored by Marshalee Patterson.

And the first line is…

Meg stared at her sleeping husband with a big grin plastered across her face.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Sitting at the Saint-Roch Train Station with tears in her eyes, Meg contemplated where her life had gone wrong. She was at a point in her life where she felt abandoned by God after the last remaining person who truly loved her, died.

Now with a baby on the way, she had begun to lose hope that the future, she knew the Lord had promised her was never meant for her.

With a gentle tap on her shoulder, her gaze turned to meet that of Derek’s, the kind stranger whose smile brought warmness into her heart. “Was he sent to fulfil God’s promise in my life?” she though

With assured faith, she followed him as he led her away, trusting that God had not forsaken her. Now she felt content to allow God to have his way in her life and totally surrender all to him.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Marshalee Patterson was born in Kingston, Jamaica. She has always had a love for reading. It was while attending the Merl Grove High School that she discovered that she loved writing stories. Some of her favourite novels were written by Charles Dickens and Victor Hugo, as she found she liked the true to life stories that we all can relate to.

She never saw herself as wanting to be a writer until she took vacation in Italy back in 2003 and came back with the idea of writing a love story from her trip but mid-way into the book, the Holy Spirit changed the direction of the story and turned it into one about faith. It was then she knew it was her calling.  She gives credit to being a Christian as it is the Holy Spirit that she says guides her in writing her books.

She writes Christian romance with spiritual warfare books, where most of her characters are created from her own experiences, with a few exceptions and this she said helps her to write with a lot of heart and love.

She hopes that through her novels, she can inspire people of all ages with the message of hope in Christ and showing them that through him comes deliverance.

Her goal is that through this medium, she can give readers a better knowledge of how to be victorious against Satan’s tactics and exposes some of the devices he uses by creating stories, where readers can better understand situations and root causes, of demonic doors opening in our lives. Through spiritual warfare prayers that she herself have been using and saw results, she hopes that they too can learn to stand strong against the devil themselves too.

She is a lover of nature and the tranquility of it. She finds nature refreshing and peaceful. She loves different cultures, especially the Spanish, which she feels makes us learn to appreciate ours a little more in areas where we have been ungrateful or unappreciative. She loves salsa music very much and dances it well too. She is a proud Jamaican.

First Line Friday: Retying the Knot

Happy Friday, friends! It’s time for First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books. Grab the book nearest to you and share the first line! Today I’m sharing the first line of Retying the Knot, An Over-Forty Rom-Com (The Fab Forties #1) by Liwen Y. Ho. I love Liwen’s books and I’m super excited to read this romcom. Be sure to check it out!

And the first lines are…

“It’s not every day that you get to gush over a hot guy with a stranger. But then again, today’s not a typical day.”

About the Book

If your marriage didn’t work out once, marry the same person again … said no couple ever.

Piper

Here’s the scoop—I married my former study partner for money’s sake. I promise you it’s not as bad as it sounds. Peter needed a wife in order to receive his dad’s inheritance … so I did what any friend would do, I said yes.

Peter

A marriage on paper—that’s all the guts I had to ask for. Of course, if Piper had wanted more, I would’ve gladly given her myself and all the puppies and chocolate in the world. Instead, I surprised her by paying off her med school bills, then took my broken heart and moved to another country.

Piper

So, here’s the part that does sound bad. I got pregnant (the details of our wedding night are a bit fuzzy). His mom hated me (still does). And we left our baby to be raised by her over-the-top grandmother when we parted ways. I told you it was bad. But now Peter’s reaching out to me and it’s making me wonder …

Peter

Do I have regrets? Absolutely! Turning forty made me realize I can’t waste a chance to make things right with the two most important women in my life. I’ve reunited with our daughter and now it’s time to win over Piper. If only she wasn’t already engaged to another man …

While visiting her grandfather before his retirement as the Roman official in the queen’s court, Chariline overhears that her father is still alive, and discovering his identity becomes her obsession. Both her grandfather and the queen have reasons for keeping this secret, however, and forbid her quest. So when her only clues lead to Rome, Chariline sneaks on the ship of a merchant trusted by friends.

First Line Friday: All That Really Matters

Today for First Line Friday, we’re looking at All That Really Matters by Nicole Deese. First Line Friday is hosted by Hoarding Books.

I used to marvel at the way my Great Mimi’s arthritic fingers would pinch her eyeliner pencil and trace a perfect stroke of midnight black along her upper lash line.

About the Book

Molly McKenzie’s bright personality and on-trend fashion and beauty advice have earned her an impressive social media following, as well as a big paycheck each month. When her manager-turned-boyfriend says she has an audition to appear as a host on a makeover show that nominates underprivileged youth, her dream of further fame seems to be coming true. There’s just one catch: she has little experience interacting with people in need.

When her manager-boyfriend convinces her to partner with a local organization, she begins volunteering with a summer youth program. The program’s director, Silas Whittaker, challenges her at every turn, but she swiftly grows more attached to the kids–and him–every day.

As Molly experiences an acceptance unlike anything she’s known, she wrestles with the lies she’s been believing about herself for years. She thought she knew what mattered most in life, but maybe she’s had it wrong this whole time, and there’s more to being truly seen than what she’s built her entire life on.

The first book in her upcoming contemporary romance series with Bethany House Publishers is set to release in early 2020.

She lives in small-town, Idaho with her happily-ever-after hubby, two towering-over-her pre-teen sons, and her princess daughter with the heart of a warrior.

First Line Friday: ‘Til I Want No More

Today for First Line Friday, we’re looking at Til I Want No More by Robin W. Pearson. First Line Friday is hosted by Hoarding Books.

“You know trouble ain’t catchin’.”

About the Book

When the man she loved years ago returns to town, one young woman’s complicated past rises again, threatening to expose her well-kept secrets.

If Maxine could put her finger on the moment when her life went into a tailspin, she would point back twenty years to the day her daddy died. She tells herself he’s the only person who ever really knew and loved her, and if he hadn’t left her behind, her future would’ve taken a different path. No absentee mother, no stepfather, no rebellious ripping and running during her teenage years. And no JD, who gave her wandering young heart a home, at least for a time.

But that’s over and done with. All grown-up now, Maxine has pledged her heart and ring finger to Theodore Charles, the man she’ll promise to love, honor, and obey in front of God and everybody. At least that’s what she’s telling anybody who will listen. The only folks buying it are the dog and the readers of her column, however. Her best friend and family aren’t having it–not even Celeste, the double bass-playing thirteen-year-old the community of Mount Laurel, North Carolina, believes is Maxine’s adopted sister. And apparently, neither is the newly returned JD, who seems intent on toppling Maxine’s reconstructed life. As her wedding day marches ever closer, Maxine confronts what it means to be really known and loved by examining what’s buried in her own heart and exposing truth that has never seen the light of day.

A Christian fiction novel with a poignant story of romance, a search for truth, and a journey to redemption. For fans of Chris Fabry, Lauren Denton, and Charles Martin. (Source: Goodreads)
