Book Review: The Doctor’s Nanny

Happy Monday, friends! Today I am thrilled to share my thoughts about The Doctor’s Nanny, the first book in Rose Fresquez’s new Caregivers series.

Have you read any books by Rose Fresquez yet?

ABOUT THE BOOK

He’s about to propose to the woman of his dreams when he meets the love of his life.

As a successful neurosurgeon about to propose to his gorgeous girlfriend, Ryan Harper has the perfect life. When his sister and brother-in-law die in a tragic car accident, he suddenly becomes a single dad to his orphaned niece and nephews. A sixty-hour workweek with a houseful of children is a lot to juggle, and he desperately needs help.

When Destiny Brown finds herself out of work, she takes a job as a temporary live-in nanny. Despite her lack of experience, she’s certain she can handle four kids. Fighting her attraction to her handsome boss, however, is going to require some extra training.

While all his spare time should be on connecting with his girlfriend, Destiny’s love and devotion to his family is working its way into his heart. Every conversation, every interaction, every heated glance across the table, might be a step closer to his destiny—until his best friend starts pursuing Destiny.

Ryan can do one of two things: confess his feelings to his employee, or suffer in silence and let fate take its course.

This is the first standalone book in the caregiver series. Each book can be read in any order.

Books in the series

1. The Doctor’s Nanny

2. The Entrepreneur’s Nurse

3. The CEO’s Companion

4. The Physician’s Helper

5. The Soldier’s Therapist

6. The Investor’s Attendant

MY THOUGHTS

With a realistic storyline and charming characters, author Rose Fresquez creates a wonderful contemporary romance novel that is sure to delight readers. The Doctor’s Nanny, the first book in her new Caregivers series, will appeal to a wide range of readers and includes diverse characters that they can easily relate to. I just love Rose Fresquez’s books, and I think The Doctor’s Nanny is my new favorite book of hers.

After the unexpected death of his sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Ryan Harper is suddenly the legal guardian of their four children. Ryan quickly realizes he needs assistance with children, and the new nanny, Destiny Brown, is a breath of fresh air to the entire family. Readers will love getting to know Destiny and Ryan in this heartwarming tale of finding true love.

The Doctor’s Nanny is recommended for readers of inspirational contemporary romance. I am definitely looking forward to reading more books from this series.

Book Review: The Dress Shop on King Street

Happy Wednesday, friends! Today I am thrilled to share my thoughts about The Dress Shop on King Street by Ashley Clark, which released yesterday December 1st. Fans of time slip novels, get ready for a fantastic new book to add to your TBR lists.

Have you read any time slip (dual timeline) novels yet?

ABOUT THE BOOK

Harper Dupree has pinned all her hopes on a future in fashion design. But when it comes crashing down around her, she returns home to Fairhope, Alabama, and to Millie, the woman who first taught her how to sew. As Harper rethinks her own future, long-hidden secrets about Millie’s past are brought to light.

In 1946, Millie Middleton–the daughter of an Italian man and a Black woman–boarded a train and left Charleston to keep half of her heritage hidden. She carried with her two heirloom buttons and the dream of owning a dress store. She never expected to meet a charming train jumper who changed her life forever . . . and led her yet again to a heartbreaking choice about which heritage would define her future.

Now, together, Harper and Millie return to Charleston to find the man who may hold the answers they seek … and a chance at the dress shop they’ve both dreamed of. But it’s not until all appears lost that they see the unexpected ways to mend what frayed between the seams.

MY THOUGHTS

The Dress Shop on King Street is the first book in author Ashley Clark’s Heirloom Secrets series.  This time slip novel is filled with deep emotion, heartbreaking moments, and hope for the future. Ashley Clark intricately weaves the past and present together in this compelling tale of following our dreams, while incorporating beautiful messages of God’s faithfulness and purpose in our lives.

The Dress Shop on King Street focuses on the present-day storyline and the historical storyline beginning in 1946.  However, the brief glimpse back to 1860 in Charleston completely broke my heart, with the anguish that Rose, a young slave and mother, experienced.  In 1946, dark moments in the past led to the difficult decision of hiding part of her heritage as Millie Middleton struggled with the implications of her racial identity in Charleston.  Both storylines were well written, but the historical storyline definitely captured my interest. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

The Dress Shop on King Street is recommended for readers of romantic women’s fiction.

Throwback Thursday: Crowning Glory

Happy Thursday! Today we’re throwing it back to 2011 with Crowning Glory, when the first edition of this novel was published. Crowning Glory is the first book in author Pat Simmons’ Restore My Soul series. The premise of this novel is different than a lot of the Christian fiction novels I read, but the topics are very relevant in our society, where people do make terrible mistakes and have the opportunity to discover salvation and redemption through the grace of God.

Have you read any novels by Pat Simmons yet?

ABOUT THE BOOK

Cinderella had a prince; Karyn Wallace has a King.

While Karyn served four years in prison for an unthinkable crime, she embraced salvation through Crowns for Christ outreach ministry. After her release, Karyn stays strong and confident, despite the stigma society places on ex-offenders. Since Christ strengthens the underdog, Karyn refuses to sway away from the scripture, “He whom the Son has set free is free indeed.”

Levi Tolliver, for the most part, is a practicing Christian. One contradiction is he doesn’t believe in turning the other cheek. He’s steadfast there is a price to pay for every sin committed, especially after

the untimely death of his wife during a robbery. Then Karyn enters Levi’s life. He is enthralled not only with her beauty but her sweet spirit until he learns about her incarceration. If Levi can accept that Christ paid Karyn’s debt in full, then a treasure awaits him.

Award-winning author Pat Simmons delivers another powerful tale and reminds readers of the permanency of redemption. Crowning Glory is a love story, and Karyn will get her prince.

Book Review: Beyond Repair

Happy Monday, friends! Today I am thrilled to share my thoughts about Beyond Repair by Rose Fresquez. Beyond Repair is the third book in Rose Fresquez’s Eron Outsiders series.

Have you read any books by Rose Fresquez yet?

ABOUT THE BOOK

Her past is a string of bad choices. Is falling for a wanted ex-gang member one more?

Hiding from her troubled past, Jules Demski sequesters herself in the mountains of Eron, Colorado, the only place she’s ever felt safe. Her solitude is shattered when an injured man staggers into her family’s barn.

Burned once and still in repair, the last thing she needs is another criminal on her hands. If she can only convince her heart of this, she just might be able to resist the interloper’s charm.

Former gangster Lorenzo Macedo has cleaned up his act, but now he’s

running for his life. He stumbles upon a barn just as a bullet pierces his body.

Jules appears standoffish and cold, but the tender way she nurses Lorenzo reveals a soft-hearted, passionate woman aching for her own wounds to be healed. No woman has ever set his blood on fire like Jules, but he has nothing to offer her except a life on the run.

Can Jules and Lorenzo find redemption in the small town, or are their lives Beyond Repair?

AMAZON | GOODREADS

MY THOUGHTS

“Let’s trust that God has forgiven us – given us another chance to do things right.”  “Another chance,” she whispered, nodding.  “Broken, but not beyond repair.”

Beyond Repair, the third installment in author Rose Fresquez’s Eron Outsiders series, is a beautiful tale of redemption, forgiveness, and discovering God’s constant grace.  This novel can easily be read as a standalone novel, but after reading Beyond Repair, now I want to go back and read the first two books in the series!

Rose Fresquez creates a realistic storyline of an ex-gang member who is ready for a fresh start after being released from prison, but finds himself in harm’s way after his former gang tries to force him back into that dangerous and criminal lifestyle.  Although I personally wouldn’t be trusting enough to let a stranger stay in my house after being shot, especially after finding out that he had been previously in jail, I truly appreciated the heroine Jules’ determination to nurse Lorenzo back to health, and Lorenzo’s honesty and desire for repentance of his past sins.

I am so glad that I discovered Rose Fresquez’s books earlier this year. I love the diversity of her characters and her sweet small-town Christian romances. If you haven’t read any books by Rose Fresquez yet, this is the perfect opportunity!

Beyond Repair is recommended for readers of inspirational contemporary romance.

Book Review: Backlash

Happy Monday, friends! Today I am thrilled to share my thoughts about Backlash by Rachel Dylan, who is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors. Backlash is the second book in Rachel Dylan’s Capital Intrigue series and releases tomorrow October 6th.

First of all, look at that gorgeous cover! This is my favorite cover of Rachel Dylan’s and it depicts CIA anaylst Layla Karam, the half Lebanese heroine, exactly as I imagined her. Rachel Dylan created a perfectly blend of romance and suspense and gives us another wonderful hero and heroine to root for. Backlash will definitely be on my list of top 10 books of 2020.

Have you read any books by Rachel Dylan yet?

ABOUT THE BOOK

With a target on her back, she’s determined to find answers.
But can she escape the deadly backlash?

CIA analyst Layla Karam is thrust into a dangerous DEA field operation against a cartel, and after one of her team members is murdered because of fallout from the op, Layla is left scrambling to find safety.

At the same time, the CIA opens an internal investigation against her. Out of options, Layla turns to ex-boyfriend and private investigator Hunter McCoy for help finding out who might want to ruin her career.

Layla and Hunter soon discover that a mole inside the DEA has sold out

the team’s identity to the cartel. She needs to clear her name with the Agency in order to protect herself and her teammates from cartel retaliation. With threats on all sides, Layla must put her trust in Hunter–the man who broke her heart–and hope they both come out of it alive.

For those who are content sensitive: this book contains non-graphic scenes and descriptions of physical and sexual assault.

AMAZON | GOODREADS

MY THOUGHTS

“You have the perfect motive for murder.”

With intense action and incredible plot twists, Backlash is a fascinating tale of deception, friendship, and discovering a second chance at romance. In the second installment of author Rachel Dylan’s Capital Intrigue series, she once again delivers a perfect blend of romance and suspense to keep my romance-loving heart happy, and of course, another fabulous hero in Hunter McCoy.

After a devastating end to their relationship five years earlier, CIA Analyst Layla Karam must work together with her ex-boyfriend, private investigator Hunter McCoy, to discover who is targeting her team members and seeking retaliation. The friendship between Layla, Bailey, and Vivian…three women who became friends at Georgetown Law and found careers in different government agencies… and their new friend NCIS agent Izzy Cole is heartwarming. In their stressful and dangerous lines of work, they are blessed with each other’s friendship, trust, and support.

In one of the novel’s secondary storylines, Rachel Dylan portrays difficult topics that are extremely relevant in today’s society, including physical and sexual assault, in an appropriate manner, while opening up a dialogue for people to have needed conversations regarding these serious issues. Through the various characters’ struggles and pain throughout the novel, Rachel Dylan intricately weaves beautiful messages of faith into the storyline, which gives readers hope for the future.

Backlash is highly recommended for readers of romantic suspense, especially those who enjoy books by authors such as Lynette Eason, Lynn H. Blackburn, Irene Hannon, and Dani Pettrey. Backlash will definitely be one of my top reads of the year. I can’t wait to see what Rachel Dylan has in store for readers in Power Play, book three in the Capital Intrigue series, which releases in May 2021.

I RECEIVED A COMPLIMENTARY COPY OF THIS BOOK FROM BETHANY HOUSE AND WAS NOT REQUIRED TO WRITE A POSITIVE REVIEW. ALL OPINIONS EXPRESSED ARE MINE.

ADDITIONAL QUOTES:

You had my heart all those years, Layla, and you still have it completely.”

“God’s there even when we think we can’t feel Him or hear Him. Sometimes it may just be a whisper in the wind or a beautiful sunrise, and that’s all it takes to remind me that the Lord is so much bigger than us. Than this earth. Than our lives. He is everything and everywhere while at the same time He cares about each of us.”

Book Review: The Price of Dreams

Happy Monday, friends! Today I wanted to share my thoughts about The Price of Dreams. This is the third book in Toni Shiloh’s new Christian Chick Lit series: Faith & Fortune. This fabulous book releases tomorrow August 18th. Happy Reading!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Ballet has always been my life, but one terrible moment may have destroyed everything I’ve worked so hard for—especially my title of Octavia Ricci, principal ballerina. I thought for sure my physical therapist, Dr. Noah Wright, could help me obtain my dream once more, but he wants more than I’m prepared to give.

I’ve seen firsthand the trials of interracial relationships. I’m a product of one myself and promised I’d never put my hopefully-someday kids through that drama. Everyone keeps telling me to let go of other people’s expectations, but I’m just not sure I can. Besides, if my dreams of returning to ballet are futile, what hope is there in seeking unconditional love?

The Price of Dreams is the third and final book in the Christian Chick Lit series: Faith & Fortune.

AMAZON | GOODREADS

MY THOUGHTS

Striving for perfection, for the dream of ballet had left me without anyone to share my accomplishments with.  Sure, I had my family and friends, but no one who was just mine.  It was hard to see what the price of my dream truly was.”

The Price of Dreams is the third book in Toni Shiloh’s new Christian Chick Lit series, Faith & Fortune. Although this book could be read as a standalone, it is recommended that the Faith & Fortune series be read in order, starting with The Trouble With Love, since the characters and storylines continue throughout the series.

In The Price of Dreams, principal ballerina Octavia Ricci’s devastating injury may have ended her ballet career.  With the help of physical therapist Dr. Noah Wright, Tavia is determined not to let her injury sideline her forever as sparks begin to fly between the two.
The Price of Dreams deals with topics that continue to remain relevant in today’s society, such as the struggles of interracial relationships and the acceptance of those relationships or lack thereof from family and society as a whole.  Tavia’s experiences growing up with an African American mother and a white Italian father showed her the difficulties of interracial relationships at a very young age.  Through the characters’ struggles, Toni Shiloh beautifully incorporated faith elements in to the storyline.

The friendly banter between Noah and Tavia was so entertaining to read, and I loved the bits of humor throughout the book. Toni Shiloh’s characters are so well developed and seem real to me.  I wish I could be friends with Holiday, Tori, and Octavia and be a fourth roommate in their townhouse.  Although I loved all of Toni Shiloh’s books, this series is definitely my favorite of hers!

The Price of Dreams is highly recommended for readers of inspirational fiction. If you haven’t read this series yet, you need to add it to your TBR list right away!

I RECEIVED A COMPLIMENTARY COPY OF THIS BOOK FROM THE AUTHOR/PUBLISHER AND WAS NOT REQUIRED TO WRITE A POSITIVE REVIEW. ALL OPINIONS EXPRESSED ARE MINE.

Happy Thursday! Today we’re throwing it back to July 2019 with Something Right, the second book in Rose Fresquez’s Buchanan series, her delightful interracial Christian firefighter romance series. This novel can easily be read as a standalone novel. I absolutely love the gorgeous cover for this book, and the Buchanan family is wonderful. I definitely recommend adding Something Right to your TBR list.

Jake Larson is good at everything…except relationships. When his marriage ends, it leaves the firefighter with doubts he’s never experienced before. Renee Buchanan is one of the best interior designers Colorado has to offer, and she knows it. She’s young, skilled, and confident…except when she’s around Jake Larson. Every time Jake steps into a room, her carefully crafted professionalism crumbles, and she finds herself lost.

And that’s a problem when Jake hires Renee to decorate his fixer-upper of a home. Not only is Jake her brother’s best friend, he’s also the gentleman of her dreams. And no matter how determined she is to make this the well-designed house of her career, and how thick the walls around Jake’s heart are, something new sizzles up between them, something they can’t help but be drawn toward.

As they work together to chip away at the walls of both Jake’s house and his heart, Jake is faced with a life-changing decision: let himself fall for his best friend’s beautiful sister, or stay single but keep his friendship intact. Either way, Jake knows he must let go of his past before he can grab hold of the future…or else risk losing the second chance he desperately needs.

Something Right is a sweet interracial romance between a damaged firefighter and the interior designer determined to make him whole again.

Something Right is the second book in the standalone in series; The Buchanans
