First Line Friday: Firefly Diaries

Happy Friday, friends! It’s time for First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books. Grab the book nearest to you and share the first line! Today I’m sharing the first line of Firefly Diaries by C.C. Warrens. Be sure to check this one out!

And the first line is…

Dry leaves stirred around Noelle’s feet as she climbed the bowed and weathered steps onto the wraparound porch.

About the Book

“The world whipped around her in a dizzying funnel of lights and shouts, people in uniforms pressing in from all directions. Noelle sat motionless in the street, barely able to breathe. His little body was too still. Too broken.”

Noelle’s world shattered that night, like the pieces of headlights scattered across the dark street. There was no rebuilding her life around the grave of her child.

Adrift in her grief, Noelle finds herself drawn to an old house as rundown and weary as her spirit. She might not be able to mend her own brokenness, but maybe she can restore this abandoned structure to its former beauty. Determined, she throws herself into a renovation project with the unexpected help of a local. But she soon learns that her new home comes with a blood-stained history and a chilling reputation.

When she stumbles across a diary written by a child with a disturbing life, and a teenage girl vanishes from the village, clues leave Noelle wondering if her house might somehow be connected. Someone — or something — wants her gone, but she has no intention of leaving without discovering the truth.

About the Author

Jesus and laughter have brought C.C. Warrens through some very difficult times in life, and she weaves both into every story she writes, creating a world of breath-stealing intensity, laugh-out-loud humor, and a sparkle of hope. Writing has been a slowly blossoming dream inside her for most of her life until one day it spilled out onto the pages that would become her first published book.
If she’s not writing, she’s attempting to bake something–however catastrophic that might be–or she’s enjoying the beauty of the outdoors with her husband. One of the many things she’s learned since she started this journey is that the best way to write a book is to go on a long stroll with her husband. That is when the characters–from their backgrounds to the moments that make them laugh or bubble over with anger–come to life.

Book Review: Peril on the Ranch

Happy Wednesday, friends! Today I’m thrilled to share with you my review of Peril on the Ranch by Lynette Eason! Be sure to check this one out if you’re a romantic suspense fan!

About the Book

They’ll shield her newest charge…

no matter what the cost.

When an infant is abandoned on her ranch, foster mother Isabelle Trent will do anything for the child—even put her own life on the line. She might not know who left the little girl, but it’s clear someone’s after her and will kill to reach their target. With Isabelle’s ranch hand, Brian “Mac” McGee, at her side, can she survive long enough to protect the baby?

From Love Inspired Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith.

AMAZON | GOODREADS

My Thoughts:

This is a great story from one of my very favorite romantic suspense authors!
Isabelle is a fantastic heroine, I instantly liked her and was cheering her on through the whole book. Mac is an awesome, swoon-worthy hero! There’s just something about a protective hero who is great with kids, and is perfectly comfortable cradling a baby in his arms that never fails to melt my heart, and Mac is definitely one such hero!
I don’t know if Peril on the Ranch is going to be part of a series or not, but this story has a great cast of secondary characters (Creed, Regina, Cody Ray, Ms. Sybil, Ben, and a few others) whom I would love to see again in future stories!
I loved the small town setting of Timber Creek. I love how this author writes both small town and more urban settings with equal brilliance, making both types of setting come to life for the reader!
The suspense in this book was excellent, it kept me flipping pages as fast as possible because I had to know what would happen next!
I really enjoyed Peril on the Ranch, and highly recommend it!
I can’t wait to read Lynette Eason’s next book!

Book Review: The Christian and The Vampire

Happy Wednesday, friends! Today I’m delighted to feature The Christian and The Vampire by Vikki Kestell. Be sure to check out this excellent short story which is FREE to download on Amazon Kindle!

About the Book

What happens one sultry summer night when a Christian and a vampire meet on a fire escape and agree to engage in a cordial conversation? A touch of hilarity, plus eye-popping—and Undead heart-starting—revelation, as vampire myth and legend give way to greater Truth!

Think Anne Rice meets Frank Peretti!

Excerpt
“Oh, I’m just in the mood for some good conversation. Cordial conversation, I assure you.” The shadows twisted and I thought he turned toward me. “What do you say, Taz?”

“I can always agree to a cordial conversation.”

“Ah. Good.” I saw that flash of white again and the faint outline of a sharp jaw. His voice was young and cultured, and I guessed his age at about thirty, but . . . but his elegant manner belied that relatively youthful age. Something distinctly mature emanated from him, and I warned myself not to base my estimation of his age on his appearance.

“I watched you work down in the Glades tonight,” he murmured, “and I confess I am somewhat curious . . . about you. . . Taz.”

He paused before adding, casually, “Dear me. This rusty old fire escape doesn’t lend itself much to comfort or civility, does it? Might we be more at our ease inside?”

“You want me to invite a vampire into my home.” I waggled my eyebrows and just looked at him. Like, really

He giggled low in his throat, tickled that I’d found him out so quickly. “But surely you’re not afraid?”

I shrugged. “Not afraid. Just not stupid.”

He spread his hands again, a self-deprecating gesture. “It was just a . . . cordial suggestion, Taz.”

“Well, could I offer you something to drink?” Ismiled this time. “In the spirit of cordiality, of course.”

It was quite interesting how his eyes flared red. I hadn’t been 100 percent certain where they were until they did.

Annnnnd apparently I’d ticked him off.

AMAZON | GOODREADS

My Thoughts:

What an interesting read! This may be a short story but it definitely packs a big punch! This story is unlike anything I’ve ever read, and I enjoyed it so much! I loved main character, Taz, he’s such an awesome guy, and I’d love to read more stories about him. I also loved that this story is written in first person POV (my personal fave!) If you enjoy excellent, thought provoking, outside the box reads be sure to check this one out! Highly recommend!

Book Review: Husband Auditions

Happy Monday, friends! Today I’m thrilled to share with you my review of the brilliant and hilarious romcom Husband Auditions by Angela Ruth Strong! Be sure to check this one out!

About the Book

How far would you go to find the perfect husband? All the way back to the 1950s?

In a world full of happily-ever-after love, Meri Newberg feels like the last young woman on the planet to be single, at least in her Christian friend group. So when she’s handed a strange present at the latest wedding–a 1950s magazine article of “ways to get a husband”–she decides there’s nothing to lose by trying out its advice. After all, she can’t get any more single, can she?

Her brother’s roommate sees the whole thing as a great opportunity. Not to fall in love–Kai Kamaka has no interest in the effort a serious relationship takes. No, this is a career jump start. He talks Meri into letting him film every silly husband-catching attempt for a new online show. If it goes viral, his career as a cameraman will be made.

When Meri Me debuts, it’s an instant hit. People love watching her lasso men on street corners, drop handkerchiefs for unsuspecting potential beaus, and otherwise embarrass herself in pursuit of true love. But the longer this game goes on, the less sure Kai is that he wants Meri to snag anyone but him. The only problem is that he may not be the kind of husband material she’s looking for . . .

With droll comic timing, unbeatable chemistry, and a zany but relatable cast of characters, Angela Ruth Strong has created a heartfelt look at the reality of modern Christian dating that readers will both resonate with and fall for.
AMAZON | GOODREADS

My Thoughts:

What an absolutely phenomenal romcom! I have been eagerly anticipating this book since the first time I saw the author mention it online, and it exceeded every single one of my expectations! I loved Meri, and as a single Christian woman I could totally relate to her! I loved Kai, too! I loved Kai and Meri together, and I love how perfectly imperfect they are as people, their character growth was wonderful and encouraging to watch! I also loved Gemma, she cracked me up and as a writer I totally get her! The faith message in this book was amazing and touched my heart deeply! Husband Auditions is hilariously funny, I can’t even begin to count the number of times it had me laughing out loud! I finished this book in less than 24 hours, and I would have finished it even sooner if I hadn’t had to take a break because my face hurt from how much this book made me smile! Husband Auditions is a brilliantly written romcom that also touches on some deeper, very real topics that make you think! I absolutely loved every single moment of this book, it was an utter delight to read, and I hated to turn the final page because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to these characters! Husband Auditions is a must read for romcom fans, I most highly recommend it! This book is one of my favorite reads of 2021, and one of my favorite romcoms of all time!

First Line Friday: Retying the Knot

Happy Friday, friends! It’s time for First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books. Grab the book nearest to you and share the first line! Today I’m sharing the first line of Retying the Knot, An Over-Forty Rom-Com (The Fab Forties #1) by Liwen Y. Ho. I love Liwen’s books and I’m super excited to read this romcom. Be sure to check it out!

And the first lines are…

“It’s not every day that you get to gush over a hot guy with a stranger. But then again, today’s not a typical day.”

About the Book

If your marriage didn’t work out once, marry the same person again … said no couple ever.

Piper

Here’s the scoop—I married my former study partner for money’s sake. I promise you it’s not as bad as it sounds. Peter needed a wife in order to receive his dad’s inheritance … so I did what any friend would do, I said yes.

Peter

A marriage on paper—that’s all the guts I had to ask for. Of course, if Piper had wanted more, I would’ve gladly given her myself and all the puppies and chocolate in the world. Instead, I surprised her by paying off her med school bills, then took my broken heart and moved to another country.

Piper

So, here’s the part that does sound bad. I got pregnant (the details of our wedding night are a bit fuzzy). His mom hated me (still does). And we left our baby to be raised by her over-the-top grandmother when we parted ways. I told you it was bad. But now Peter’s reaching out to me and it’s making me wonder …

Peter

Do I have regrets? Absolutely! Turning forty made me realize I can’t waste a chance to make things right with the two most important women in my life. I’ve reunited with our daughter and now it’s time to win over Piper. If only she wasn’t already engaged to another man …

Book Review: The Heart’s Charge

Happy Wednesday, friends! Today I’m thrilled to bring you my review of The Heart’s Charge (Hanger’s Horsemen #2) by Karen Witemeyer which just released yesterday! I absolutely loved this book! Be sure to check it out!

About the Book

Members of Hanger’s Horsemen, Mark Wallace and Jonah Brooks arrive in Llano County, Texas, to deliver a steed, never expecting they’d deliver a baby as well. Left with an infant to care for, they head to a nearby foundling home, where Mark encounters the woman he’d nearly married a decade ago.

After failing at love, Katherine Palmer dedicated her life to caring for children, teaming up with Eliza Southerland to start Harmony House. From mixed ancestry, illegitimate, and female, Eliza understands the pain of not fitting society’s mold. Yet those are the very attributes that lead her to minister to outcast children. The taciturn Jonah intrigues her with his courage and kindness, but there are secrets behind his eyes–ghosts from wars past and others still being waged.

However, when a handful of urchin children from the area go missing, a pair of Horsemen are exactly what the women need. Working together to find the children, will these two couples find love as well?

AMAZON | GOODREADS

My Thoughts:

An absolutely amazing second book in the Hanger’s Horsemen series! After reading and absolutely loving At Love’s Command I was super psyched to dive into The Heart’s Charge, and what a fantastic ride this story is! I loved Mark and Jonah, they are both such fantastic heroes that I simply can’t choose a favorite! In my opinion the only thing better than a Karen Witemeyer written romance, is TWO Karen Witemeyer written romances in the same book! I absolutely loved that we get both Mark and Kate’s, and Jonah and Eliza’s love stories, it added a whole other level of amazingness to this story! And I LOVE that Ms. Witemeyer chose to feature an African-American hero and heroine, Jonah and Eliza brought to this book a beautiful diversity that, in my opinion, we need more of in Christian fiction!

Oh, and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention just how much I love that gorgeous cover! I could stare at it for hours, and I wish there was a way I could frame it and hang it on my wall! I’ve been absolutely mesmerized by this cover since the moment I first saw it, and it’s one of my favorite covers of all time!

I absolutely adored everything about this book, and most highly recommend it! The Heart’s Charge is a fast paced read that will take you on a thrilling ride and leave you blissfully grinning, and eagerly anticipating Preach’s story!

(5 Stars!)

I received an ebook copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley. My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.
