ABOUT THE BOOK
SPECIAL DELUXE VOLUME
For Tommy Porter life is nowhere near what he thought it would be. His deepest desire is simple—to love and to be loved. But pain and heartbreak have taught him that that’s not possible for him. In fact, the pain let him know that the better path is to remain single—for the rest of his days. But a timely sermon challenges him to cling to God like never before, and Tommy begins to see the Lord move in unexpected ways. Will he hold fast to his fears? Or will he cling to God and allow His love to conquer those fears?
Stephanie London is certain her marriage will never be what she’d hoped. Even now, as she and her husband are expecting their first baby, she’s painfully aware that she longs for more. When she and Lindell finally take the honeymoon vacation they never got, Stephanie allows herself a glimmer of fresh hope. But the trip ushers in their greatest test yet—and Stephanie fears it could be the end.
Jade Rogers has never fit into anyone’s circle. Outspoken and even mean by nature, her disposition has meant a life in which she can’t name a single friend, besides her twin sister. But now that she’s given her life to Christ, the old Jade is gone—at least, in spirit. But what does that look like in reality? And when a potential friend suddenly crosses her path, will she allow the Lord to do a new thing in her life?
In the midst of these stories and more, Hollywood comes to St. Louis to film the movie based on the life of Pastor Lance Alexander—and the Living Word family encounters more than a few twists and turns as a result.
Join characters you’ve come to know and love and meet a few new ones in this special deluxe volume in the Promises of God series!

Happy Wednesday reader friends! Today’s book review is A Holly, Bolly Christmas by Mikal Daw, and I’m happy to share my thoughts about this story which is part of the Something Borrowed collection.
ABOUT THIS BOOK
Old friends, new loves, and a borrowed tiara.
Always Been Yours by Jaycee Weaver — Hanady’s planning her dream wedding, but her injured best friend Keenan isn’t the groom. If she can’t see she’s marrying the wrong guy soon, his leg won’t be the only thing broken.
All the Moore by Toni Shiloh — Leilah Anderson has been living behind the screen to hide her disability, then she meets Reggie Moore face-to-face. Can their relationship survive the truth and distance between them?
A Holly, Bolly Christmas by Mikal Dawn — A dream wedding venue at Christmas? Sign Chahna Kapoor up. Even if her fiancé doesn’t know it…
Somehow, This Christmas by Teresa Tysinger — When not-so-merry mishaps threaten wedding planner Cate Forsyth’s holiday wedding and reputation, will her own happily ever after with sweetheart Noah Bennett melt away?
A Promise So Sweet by Andrea Boyd — Lydia Osborn hasn’t heard from her ex in ten years, so imagine her surprise when he shows up proposing marriage. Tis the season for love?
I absolutely loved reading any of Mikal Dawn’s books because anything she writes makes me laugh. Her stories are filled with humor and romance, and Maguire and Chahna’s story was no exception. I could picture the scene where Chahna finds out her dream wedding venue has been booked already, even though Maguire hasn’t proposed to her yet! Chahna’s parents, who are Bollywood actors, keep introducing her to other men hoping to deter her from marrying Maguire. This is a great read and I highly recommend reading A Holly, Bolly Christmas if you are looking for a fun rom/com story to read.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Mikal Dawn is an inspirational romance author, wedding enthusiast, and proud military wife. By day, she works as an administrative assistant for an international ministry organization, serves in her church’s library, runs her kids to football, Tae Kwon Do, and figure skating, and drinks lots of coffee. By night, she pulls her hair out, wrestling with characters and muttering under her breath as she attempts to write while dinner is burning. And drinks lots of coffee. When she isn’t writing about faith, fun, and forever, she is obsessively scouring Pinterest (with coffee in hand, of course!) for wedding ideas for her characters.
Mikal holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and an associate’s degree in Accounting (both from Liberty University), and has worked in accounting, as an assistant to authors, both in person and virtually (they kept her on her toes!). She currently works as an administrative assistant/office manager for an international sports ministry.
Her first love is Jesus Christ, her second love is her husband, third her kids, fourth is writing, and fifth is coffee. Or reading.
Nah, it’s coffee.
Born and raised just outside of Vancouver, Canada, Mikal has lived throughout the southern United States, currently residing in Nebraska (and loving it!) with her husband, three kids, and one lazy ferocious feline.

There’s only one person standing in the way of love: her husband. As Efe files for divorce, will the breakup give her joy or lead to her losing more than she expected? It’s been almost two years since the night that changed everything for Efe. For as long as she could remember, her childhood crush on Daniel had always made her do silly things. But there was only one thing she regretted; having a baby for him when he clearly didn’t love her. With constant push and pressures from both their families, they end up in a marriage only one of them wants. She goes away for the mandatory one year National service and meets Amaze who is everything Daniel isn’t to her, and he sweeps her off her feet showing her sweet romance. Armed with the pain of Daniel’s adulterous ways, she makes the firm decision to move on and files for a divorce. While Efe is away, Daniel has a change of heart from the most unlikely means and decides to get his act together and be the husband he hasn’t been. He gets his acts straight and wants to get his wife back but he may be late as she’s already met with Amanze’s family. Will Efe be willing to take Daniel back, or will her new love with Amanze be strong enough to make her walk away from him? Can she hope for a new start with her daughter and Amanze or is everything just wishful thinking?
Happy Wednesday dear reader friends! Today’s book review is Casket Case, book 1 in The Cynthia Shade Mysteries, by Lee James. This is a great suspense story.
ABOUT THIS BOOK
Cynthia Shade. That’s her name. She has ADHD and cynophobia. That’s just a fancy way of saying she’s terrified of dogs. Not all dogs mind you, just the tiny ones that come at you with their razor-sharp fangs and frenzied eyes. To make it worse, she can’t find a job, rather, she can’t keep a job, and she’s about to be evicted. Just when she gets a glimmer of hope she’s blackmailed into trying to solve a murder. Wait-what? Cue the handsome sheriff who awakens real interest in perpetually single Cynthia, and a cast of crazed suspects. One of whom is determined she doesn’t make it out of this adventure alive.
Casket Case by Lee James is a good suspense story involving Cynthia being blackmailed into solving a mystery, a dead body, and a number of suspects. Because of ADHD, Cynthia can’t handle structured schedules, including a job with a set schedule. Her mother and younger sister want Cynthia to have a job with security instead of having Cynthia struggle and be unable to keep the electricity on in her apartment and pay rent. Lee James did a great job in having Cynthia realize that she doesn’t need to conform and be like everybody else but to find who she is without the structured schedules. I’m looking forward to seeing if there’s going to be a book 2 in this series.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Lee James writes stories of hope and redemption. Whether it’s fantasy, mystery or historical fiction, her beautifully awkward characters traverse a dark labyrinth on their journey to a hopeful end. She is vehement about the importance of creating and preserving the sanctity of the written word. In that vein, she supports literacy programs and her local libraries. Most importantly, she supports her fellow writers. When not writing, she enjoys photography, watching The Simpsons, and of course, reading.
Today’s Top Ten prompt from That Artsy Reader Girlis all about the jobs held by the characters in the stories we read. I asked this question of my fellow Diversity Between the Pages contributors and together we created our top ten list of favorite jobs held by diverse characters.
Today I am featuring a book written by one of my favorite romantic suspense authors, Lynn H. Blackburn. Unknown Threat, the first book in her new Defend and Protect series, focuses on the United States Secret Service. Faith Malone, the heroine of Unknown Threat, is a FBI special agent who is half Cherokee. I am thrilled to share my thoughts on Unknown Threat today. You definitely want to add this fabulous book to your TBR lists!
ABOUT THE BOOK
US Secret Service Special Agent Luke Powell is lucky to be alive. Three of his fellow agents have died in unusual circumstances in the past ten weeks. Luke is devastated by the loss of his friends and colleagues, and his inability to locate the killer feels like a personal failure. He’s an expert at shielding others, but now the protectors are in need of protection.
FBI Special Agent Faith Malone is driven to succeed and confident in her ability to solve every case she’s assigned. She’s been put in charge of the investigation into the unprecedented attacks, and with Luke’s life in danger, the stakes have never been higher. But it’s hard to know how to fight back when you don’t know who the enemy is.
As more agents are targeted, Luke and Faith will have to work together to bring a killer to justice and prevent any more names from joining their fallen brothers and sisters on the Secret Service Wall of Honor.
Award-winning author Lynn H. Blackburn pulls out all the stops in this brand-new romantic suspense series that will have you holding your breath one minute and swooning the next.
With the perfect blend of romance and suspense, Unknown Threat, the first installment in award winning author Lynn H. Blackburn’s Defend and Protect series, is sure to delight readers. This book is absolute perfection… romance, suspense, humor, fast-paced action, wonderful characters, and faith elements.
Lynn H. Blackburn continues to do a fabulous job incorporating characters of diverse backgrounds into her storylines, including Unknown Threat’s heroine Faith Malone, who is half Cherokee. She consistently creates characters who readers care about long after the final page, such as charismatic and swoon-worthy US Secret Service Special Agent Luke Powell. Luke is giving Dive Team Investigator Gabe Chavez some serious competition as my favorite hero of Lynn H. Blackburn’s.
The background on the United States Secret Service is fascinating as most people think Secret Service agents only serve on protection details of VIPs, and the cameos from beloved Dive Team members are a special treat for longtime fans of the author.
Unknown Threat is highly recommended for readers of romantic suspense, especially those who enjoy books by authors such as Dani Pettrey, Irene Hannon, Lynette Eason, and Rachel Dylan. Unknown Threat has been my most anticipated book of the year, and it will definitely be on my list of top 10 books of 2021.
I RECEIVED A COMPLIMENTARY COPY OF THIS BOOK FROM THE AUTHOR/ PUBLISHER AND WAS NOT REQUIRED TO WRITE A POSITIVE REVIEW. ALL OPINIONS EXPRESSED ARE MINE.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Lynn H. Blackburn is the author of Beneath the Surface, In Too Deep, One Final Breath, Hidden Legacy, and Covert Justice. Winner of the 2016 Selah Award for Mystery and Suspense, and the 2016 Carol Award for Short Novel, Blackburn believes in the power of stories, especially those that remind us that true love exists, a gift from the Truest Love. She’s passionate about CrossFit, coffee, and chocolate (don’t make her choose) and experimenting with recipes that feed both body and soul. She lives in Simpsonville, South Carolina, with her true love, Brian, and their three children.
